Why do we insist our products are made in USA?

This is definitely not based on national pride. It is based on the fact that scientific research proves that USA grown materials always have better performance when extruding to the nozzle, and therefore helps in achieving a cleaner surface of your printed object.

USA PLA Materials:

While some of us might have an idea that PLA is an environmental friendly material, only a few are actually aware of its personal and environment effects. PLA (Polylactide) is a unique polymer that behaves like Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET), and acts like Polypropylene (PP) in many ways. It's a biodegradable material that is derived from renewable resources, mostly corn starch. Therefore, PLA is safe to be used as cups, bags, holders as well as everyday goods that may have contact with human body.

Despite the fact that certain people are allergic to corn; these will not be affected by PLA products. This is due to the fact that heat used in the process of deriving the starch from corn destroys the immunologically reactive profilin, and this profiling is the chemical that causes allergic reactions.

ABS Materials:

ABS, also known as Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene has been massively produced in Asian countries, and is used in various industries and commodities. Under normal temperature, ABS is not hazardous to the human body. However, heating up ABS materials will produce fumes of acrylonitrile and this reaction predisposes to human carcinogen.

ABS materials offer a relatively high strength because of its property. This makes it a good choice when choosing to print out crucial components such as open source 3D printer components, or components that required weight bearing function.
